Project Kakhovka Dam
On June 6, at 02:50 at night, the Russians blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP
This HPP supplied the south of Ukraine with fresh water and electricity, and supported the operation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. As a result of the terrorist act, many settlements in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions were flooded. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, this led to the lack of water supply for almost 90,000 homes (that is, the number of people without access to fresh water is several times higher).

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs as of June 10:
47 settlements remain flooded on the territory of the Kherson region, of which 33 are in the territory controlled by Ukraine and 14 are in the temporarily occupied territory. 2,620 people were evacuated, 160 of them children. It is known that 4 people died, 11 people were injured due to shelling by the Russians during the evacuation. 27 people are still missing. This means that the list of dead may increase.

In the Mykolaiv region, 31 settlements were flooded. 936 people were evacuated in the region, including 167 children. 1 person died.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, there is no water supply in more than 89,000 homes in 26 settlements.

The final number of victims will be known after the water level recedes.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSEQUENCES
As a result of the destruction of the dam of the hydroelectric power station, a significant amount of biogenic elements, heavy metals, and fuel and lubricants entered the water. Flooded cemeteries, landfills, cesspools. Due to the rapid drop in the water level, a mass plague of fish began.

For nature, this has a global ecological character in the Black Sea region. The unique natural ecosystem of the floodplain of the Dnipro from Novaya Kakhovka to the Dnipro-Buzka estuary, which is more than 80,000 hectares of the "Lower Dnipro" natural territory, was actually destroyed.

There are extremely high risks of developing secondary consequences, including disease outbreaks.
The Peace and Development Foundation announces the collection of funds
for the necessary medicines for the largest medical institution in the region - the Kherson Regional Clinical Hospital, which receives victims from the first hours.
Our Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Kherson Regional Clinical Hospital regarding the provision of medicines for victims of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya Dam.
